Heading to Long Beach, Geocaching and Hanging Out at the Resort

Ben's mom usually takes vacation around May or June.  The last few times its been Chelan or Long Beach...mostly because of the availability of the WorldMark resorts.  This year she chose to do it in Long Beach and around Amy's birthday.  The only thing that bummed us out was she made the reservation for Saturday at 4:00 instead of a Friday night.  It was going to be a quick trip since we would only be able to go for a night.  Since we only were staying for a night we didn't need to pack that much stuff so we drove Ben's car because mine got the crap driven out of it five days prior.

We got our stuff ready the Friday before and I scouted out a few spots to grab caches along the way.  The route I decided to go with was Hwy 6 through Adna, PeEll and Raymond.  I've been down that road a lot over the years and there were a lot of accessible caches we didn't have to go that far off the road for.  It was also going to be a nice weekend but of course it was going to be a little bit chillier on the coast with the wind and cooler temperatures.

The next morning we got up around 8, ate some cereal and headed out about 9ish.  Trish and Amy were going to leave their house around 10ish.  They were going to go through Montesano and down 101.  That way seemed longer to me but they liked that way.  We got onto I-5 and got off at the Adna exit.  From there we drove a few miles and our first cache we stopped at was roughly 8 miles out of PeEll.

Sharp Curve Part 2 (GC27QRZ) was near a gated off forest road.  There was a pull out near the guardrail.  We originally thought it was a guardrail cache.  It wasn't.  We walked up to a small stump on a tiny hill and I found it hidden underneath some bark.  I signed our names and put it back.

A ways down the road in Frances, we came across our next one, Spirit Quest - Frances Catholic Cemetery (GC4XZ72) which was part of a cemetery series.  I've gotten a couple of them so far here and there.  We found the correct road to drive down.  We parked as close as we could to it and made the 100 feet or so walk to the trees.  There were also a ton of clovers covering the ground.  We made the find and Ben had to hang from the tree.

There was one more of the cemetery ones along the road.  This time it was in Lebam.  We parked in the small lot on the other side of the church and walked the tall grass to the corner.  Spirit Quest - FirGrove Cemetery (GC4XFZC) was tucked near a tree with sticker bushes around it.  I had to be careful when I grabbed it so I didn't tear up my hand.

Since we were on the cemetery kick and we had one more in Labam to grab one more, Resistance is Futile (GC2HT70).  There were a few visitors at this cemetery so we had to try and stay away from their event.  We parked the car over by where the coords told us to.  After searching quickly for a few minutes, hoping no one would come over, I finally found it.  However, the cemetery care taker came over and asked us what we were doing.  I told him we were geocaching and he said he has heard of it and told us a story about going up to Enumclaw with a bunch of friends to go square dancing and his friends did some geocaching while they were there.  We chatted for a few minutes and I put the cache back and told him to have a nice day.  We continued on.

We drove into Raymond and I noticed that there was another opportunity to grab one of the Washington State history caches.  Good thing I brought our passports...even though I know the geotour is actually done.  WSHS 125 - Willapa Seaport Museum (GC6JC67) was hidden in the bushes right outside the museum.  We had to look pretty hard in the tall grass.  Ben ended up cutting himself on one of the blades of grass.  We found the plastic ammo box, signed our names and put a stamp on our passports.

It was beyond lunch time and we had to find some food soon.  We drove into South Bend and decided to go into the small grocery store to get some sandwiches.  I ended up getting a chicken wrap because it sounded good.  We got a couple bags of chips and some drinks.  We walked back across the street to the small park and ate our food.  We saw the giant clam and couldn't help ourselves.

We tried looking for a cache called Memory Dock (GC6KNVG) but just could not find it after about a half hour so we gave up and called Trish to find out where they were.  They had just gotten into Long Beach so we got in the car and headed the rest of the way to the resort in Long Beach.

When we drove into town Trish had mentioned that her and Amy were at the store getting the rest of the supplies for the week.  We crashed their party and Ben ran into the shopping cart by accident.  We all laughed at him for being a tard.  We checked out and followed Trish to the resort.  There, we unpacked our cars and took it upstairs to the third floor.  When we got in the place seemed more like an apartment than a hotel resort room.  We took the room by the bathroom.  We relaxed a bit and decided to go walk the boardwalk for a while.  I still couldn't believe the weather was this nice.

I looked at my phone and saw that there was a cache close by.  In fact it was under the boardwalk!  Score!  I crawled underneath the boardwalk and grabbed Under the Boardwalk [CDS] (GC6P7ZT) brought it out for everyone to see what was inside.  I signed the logbook and we took a group picture before putting it back.

We walked a little further then decided to go and walk along the beach.  I brought my bucket and shovel and everyone made fun of me.  I made a small sandcastle while everyone watched me.

We got hungry so we started walking back to go start some dinner.  Ben and I decided to grab just one more since it was close to where we were staying.  As we walked we didn't realize it was going to be in the trees with the mud and the millions of mosquitos!  Ben left as soon as he saw them.  I continued looking for Horses, Horses Everywhere [CDS] (GC6P7ZT).  After a quick search near a tree, I found the pile of poo.  I signed it quickly so I could also get away from the mosquitos.

We went back to our room and helped Trish make dinner.  She prepared burgers and we had chips, potato salad and watermelon with it as we watched the sunset on the balcony.

Again, we relaxed a bit and had a small birthday party for Amy.  We brought her a card and the movie, Sing...because Beauty and the Beast wasn't out on DVD yet.  We made her wear the Happy Birthday button.  Then we had to wait a bit for Amy to decide if she wanted to go out and do some karaoke.  We left around 9ish and drove the few blocks to the Lamp Lighter.  I figured there would be a lot of people there because it was a Saturday night.  Nope.  Besides us, there were four other people and the DJ.  We had a couple drinks and listened to Amy and Ben sing a few of their usual songs.  We also like to draw weird things on the small piece of paper to request songs on.  We've made about three of them since the first time we went out to karaoke.

We got back just after midnight and Ben wanted to watch a movie.  I wanted to get cleaned up first so we took showers.  We used the free movie rental ticket you get when you stay at this resort.  Ben chose Central Intelligence.  It was not what I expected at all.  It was definitely entertaining and weird.  Trish fell asleep in the chair.  I was so ready for bed by the time it was over...which was almost 2:30.  We got ready for bed and I was out as soon as I laid down.  I did wake up in pain.  It was similar to the pain I experienced a few weeks ago when I had to go to urgent care.  This time it was the opposite side so I laid on the bathroom floor for a bit.  I didn't puke and this time it was a shorter wait for the pain to go away.  Ben came in and asked if I was okay.  I told him just to leave me until it goes away.  About an hour later, the pain went away and I was able to go back to bed.  I was so exhausted.  I was going to try an experiment to see if it was my diet as soon as we got home after the weekend.
