Ben came over to accompany me to my staff Christmas Party later on but we decided to hit my trail for a couple of caches and to do some maintenance on a few of them. I had planned it differently. We were going to do the entire series on bikes but we got a late start and it was raining. Sad day. I parked off of 507 between AA#1 and AA#2. We walked to the first one. I set the GPS up so Ben could learn how to use it. I let him find all of the ones this afternoon. The first one was missing a bag so I added a plastic baggie to it as he signed his name.
We walked to AA#2 and it was laying out in the open! We took care of that as fast as we could.
We jogged to AA#3 to keep ourselves warm. We were approximately .30 from the next one because one used to be underneath the trestle. It has been archived because someone stole the ammo can. We got to the cache zone and I found out the coords were way off but with the hint it makes it easy to find. I don't remember the railroad part that holds the nails on the track stuck in the tree. Someone must have added that along the way.
AA#4 we had trouble finding. It is not where I had it originally. It didn't even have the original container. Someone added a container inside another container with a new logbook at one point. It was put in the bushes off of the trail. I had it closer to the trail under a large rock. Hmm...I just put it back where I found it.
We took a few pictures of the trail on our way to AA#5. This one was the big stump off of the right side of the trail. Ben thought it was an awesome stump and the cache was still frozen to the ground but we managed to pull it off and change the baggie before putting it back.
Continuing on down the trail, we had several conversations about different things...mostly geocaching of course. We got to AA#6 and it tricked both Ben and I. I had forgotten it was on the left side of the trail rather than the right, where most of them were placed. I had a large rock on top of it. The grass was high enough to kind of cover the rock. That cache was still in great condition.
Since we were on the trail, I had Ben find X=what and Y=what since we were walking past them. I told him it was easy math and we went and found them. It was interesting looking for them again, two years later. I had him sign the logs and we put them back better than we found them.
By this time we were wet, freezing and trying really hard to have a good time. My hands burned. We decided to grab one more, turn around and head back to the car. AA#7 was easy since it was attached to the tree still. We didn't have to do much to this one. We hustled back to the car to keep warm. Our clothes were soaked. We would have to wait until after the holidays to get the rest and when it's not raining.
Next Adventure: TBA
