Superbowl LVI

I decided to have a Superbowl "party" this year even though we were disgusted with the NFC representation but at least it was a Tom Brady free Superbowl.  That was the silver lining even though we could not stand Sean McVay and the team he spent a lot of money on.  If they won the Superbowl, it would be because they bought one.

I asked Trish if she, Ed and Amy wanted to come over and eat food, watch the game and chill.  They said they didn't have any plans, so they agreed.  I told them they could come whenever since the game started at 3:30. I told Mom and Dad they could come as well if they wanted to.  I know how much my Dad loves football.  He would probably just come for the food, say hi to everyone and continue on with his day.

I decided I was going to have an easy food spread.  I really didn't want to make anything super complicated or fancy.  I chose to do croissants and get some meats and cheeses.  I had to go to Costco anyway and you can't beat the $5 croissants.  I picked up some more meats and cheese when I went to Walmart to get stuff for the upcoming weeks around the world dinner menu.  I even had to go to Party City for a football tablecloth because I couldn't find any at the dollar store.

Trish asked what she could contribute, and I told her bring chips, a fruit bowl and your own drinks.  Unless they wanted various soda, milk, water or juice.  We did have some beer and hard alcohol, but no one wanted to get too crazy because we all had to work the next day and they had to drive home later.  She agreed and told us she would see us on Sunday.

That Sunday, I cleaned up the house a little bit, put some stuff away that was on the table we were going to use, and Ben helped me make the Superbowl desserts I saw on Facebook a couple weeks ago.  We ran out of Nutter Butters so he got on his motorcycle and went to the store really quick so we could finish them.  They were similar to the dirt cups with worms in them except you used Nutter Butters crushed up and Nutter Butters as footballs with fudge pudding, whipped cream and sprinkles.  They were kinda fun to make.  We got all the ingredients into the cups and put them in the fridge, so the whipped cream and pudding didn't get warm.

Everything was pretty much ready except for the food.  I still had to get that stuff ready and put it out on platters and stuff.  I decided to wait until after the game started before, I put out the food.  Trish texted me to let us know that she was picking Ed up at 1.  That meant they were probably going to be here around 2ish or so.

I turned on the pregame stuff and continued putting stuff away and organizing.  I needed to do some of this stuff anyway because I've been putting it off.  Trish, Ed and Amy arrived just after 2.  They got settled in and Trish asked if she could help me with anything.  I said, not at the moment.  She pulled out her five bags of large chips and I said let's open like one or two of them.  I got out some bowls and we put them on the table.  We set aside the other ones for now.

As it approached game time, I found my platters and bowls and started getting the food ready to go.  Trish got her fruit bowl ready, and Ed was already yelling at the TV.  I didn't really watch the first quarter, but I could tell what was happening because of Ed's reactions.

We got all the food out on the table.  I had Ben cut the croissant's, I got out the three different types of meats, two kinds of cheese, lettuce, pickles, mayo, two different types of mustard, the Nutter Butter pudding cups and the goodies that our neighbor Rhonda brought over this morning.  She is so nice to us.  I've never had a neighbor that was this nice to us.  We need to do something nice for her at some point.

Everything was on the table including the fruit bowl.  I told everyone to dig in.  I was hungry so I was the first one in line.  I texted Dad to see if he was coming and he said he was on his way, that was around 4;30.  I called Mom to see if she was still coming over and she said she was almost done mopping the floor, then she would get gas in Nisqually and then be over after that.

We all sat on the couch, Doug even came out to spend time with people and eat food and we all watched the game.  It was 13-10 Rams at halftime.  From what I saw, either one of these teams could win the Superbowl, this game wasn't one-sided like some of the previous Superbowl's I've seen recently.  If the Bengals capitalized on all of their drives, they were going to win.  If they went three and out and had to punt most of their drives in the second half, they probably weren't going to win.

Both Mom and Dad showed up and had some food.  You could tell Dad really could care less about the game on TV.

The Bengals held their own and I called both of Stafford's interceptions that kept Cincy in the game.  We all wish those there both touchdowns instead of a field goal.  The Bengals had this up until the very sad fourth quarter where the refs helped the Rams win the game.  There weren't very many penalties until the game was on the line for the Rams since they were down at that point.  The penalties they did call were complete crap and the refs handed the Rams a Superbowl victory.  However, the Bengals, if they had two more seconds on the last play on 4th and 1, they had a shot at winning because their receiver was wide open.  Burrow was sacked and the whole country was disappointed except for the bandwagon Rams fans, the celebrities who could afford the tickets to go to the Superbowl and maybe some old people who were fans back in the 1940's who might still be alive.

There ya have it, the Rams officially bought themselves a Superbowl with the help of the refs to make sure that happened.  At least the MVP was Yakima, Washington native Cooper Kupp instead of mediocre Stafford or that douche bag Donald, who chokes other players and gets away with it.

Dad left early and Mom stayed until the game was well over.  She was cold and wrapped herself up in one of my many couch blankets.  Trish, Amy and Ed, thanked us for a good time and helped me put the food away before they headed home.

Ben and I cleaned up a little bit and finished our laundry we started earlier that day.  The Superbowl would have been better if the Seahawks were playing.  I sure hope next season is better than the 2021-2022 dumpster fire season.  This is the worst we've played since 2012 but at least we swept the 49ers.
