Historically for me, the 4th of July is always a really busy day and I think it will continue to be a really busy day from here on out. I got up around 9:30 and ate some cereal. I was in contact with Erika to find out when they were up and wanted to be picked up for the rest of the day. At around 10ish I went and got her and Travis and took them over to my house. Yesterday, dad mentioned that he wanted to go shooting at Jeff's house with Ben and Travis and he didn't say what time. Plus we had to get some fireworks for tonight and head over to Paul and Peggy's at around 4 so we could still go swimming.
Ben got up late and Erika got bored so she got onto Netflix, we recently acquired this from Willmarth, and she watched the Lizzy McGuire movie. We were slowly running out of time to do everything and get to the lake by 4. I made two sets of Rice Krispy treats and got all of our stuff ready so we could head out and get fireworks from the Rez.
I haven't been out there since they moved the shacks near the roundabout at the 510/Yelm Highway junction. We went for specific fireworks so we all split up and wandered the sea of firework shacks. Ben and I were looking for the big boom color fireworks that shoot up into the sky and Erika and Travis were looking for the small goofy ones like the turtles, tanks, pooping puppies (yes, you read that right) and sparklers.
I ran into a girl I used to coach fastpitch back in 2010 and man the years were not good to her. She tried several times to get us to buy at her friends firework shack. I just told her that I was browsing and I might come back later. We didn't come back later. We found a shack that was selling some really cool fireworks and they threw in a few things for $105.00. Erika on the other hand, managed to clean house with all of her novelty fireworks and she also took home a buttload of sparklers.
We hurried to my parents house because I knew already we were not going to make the lake by 4. It was already 2 and I knew shooting was going to take a while. I accepted we would not be at the lake in time to go swimming while the sun was shining at the right spots. Once it got later on in the day the sun hides behind the trees and I am not interested in getting in the water at that point. It was hard waiting around for them to finish shooting targets with an array of guns. I texted Ben a few times to find out if they were close to being done and to get grandma on the way back to the house so we didn't have to pick her up.
It was after 4 when they got to the house with grandma. Ben, Erika, Travis and I headed out with grandma to Paul and Peggy's house. Mom and dad left shortly after and met us there. Ben had to contact Josh and Heather to let them know where to exactly to go because they got there way before we did. When we did finally get there, I noticed that several people parked really dumb and we had to go find a place we could get in and out of.
We grabbed our stuff we were going to be using right away and headed down towards the party area. We noticed right away they got their house built and completely changed the way the entire yard looked. We immediately jumped in the food line because the Edminster's are notorious for eating up all the food according to dad. We spent the next hour eating and visiting with several people. I talked to Bob and Bev for a while about geocaching and other random things. I played some ping pong with Erika and Ben and by that time it was getting dusk. Erika busted out her tanks, turtles and poopy puppies. That meant the other kids were also getting into their fireworks and one came too close to the crowd of people. That definitely got the heart rate going.
A little while later as it got darker, we got out the sparklers, roman candles and other really cool fountains and blow up stuff as we waited until 10, when the barge floated out to the middle of the lake. After lighting off one of my mortars, I walked away from the tube and watched it blow up into really pretty colors over the lake. As I continued to the bank, I walked past some kids throwing bees, one kid held on to his too long and threw it towards the water, some of the sparks got onto my Seahawk shorts and now I have a little burn mark on them. Ugh.
We all settled down and grabbed our chairs and watched the fireworks from the barge. We found out this past winter that our neighbor across the street two houses down, actually puts on the firework show. Ben and I were floored! It's such a small world. It really is.
After the show we gathered all of our belongings and thanked Peggy for the nice evening and having everyone over. She told us not to be a stranger and to come visit anytime. I had mom take grandma home so we didn't have to drive into Rainier and just out to Lacey to drop Erika and Travis off at the hotel and then go home. I had to shower and get to bed as soon as possible since I had to get up the next day and go to work. I was dreading it. I knew the rest of the week was going to be tiring.
Happy 4th of July!!
