I had only one day off this week so I had to make the most of it. I started off with lunch, washed my work clothes, put the dishes away and eventually put my boots on and put new water in the duck pools and chicken buckets. While I waited for them to fill up I smashed the pile of cans that seem to never disappear. It's a good and bad thing.
I decided to get all my stuff together and head over to Rochester a few hours earlier than Ben told me to so I could pick up some caches that I've neglected over the past few months to a year or so. Today was the day to go get them before they were archived. The weather was decent and unusually warm for a February in the Pacific Northwest. The high was around 60 with little to no rain depending on where you lived of course.
I didn't get out of the house until about 3 and that's when the school traffic hit our tiny town. I was going to replace one of my caches in town but I saved it for when I came back...less muggles to watch me. I stopped by the post office to mail back my Progressive Snapshot device that I put in my car in September. With my great driving habits I saved $13 on my monthly car insurance bill.
I started my drive west and decided to go get the puzzle cache, The Lost Treasure of Baron Rodolfo Modulo (GC2ZD77), a cache that I've had the coords to for over a year. I just didn't get it for some reason. I was either in a hurry to get to Ben or it was dark and I didn't feel like looking for it in the dark. I parked literally 12 feet from it, got out and started looking for it. I wandered around the scotch broom, looked under rocks, pieces of wood and even checked the stop sign. I was puzzled...where else could it be? I read a few logs and then got an idea. The drain. It was a key holder attached to the side of the drain. Those ones you have to be careful with or they will end up in the drain.
I got back in the car and headed to the Scatter Creek Recreation area. I parked at the given coords and made sure my Discovery Pass was visible. Along with my vehicle, there was a jeep and a van. The guy in the van was teaching his dogs how to bird hunt. Not sure where the guy in the jeep was. I got out the Go Pro, GPS, pen and my phone and went into the recreation area avoiding the dogs, who were running all over the place.
I had the GPS on Don't Shoot the Pheasents (GCJA3M), a cache by FirefighterJ. It's been there since 2004. I read the logs the night before and saw that it hasn't been found in a while. I looked anyway. Yep, the ammo can was no where in sight. I logged a DNF and he archived it the next day. Another one bites the dust.
I wandered over to the next one, Where's My Key? (GC3RGNY). There are only a few trees in this wide grassy area so I kinda knew where it was going to be. I got to the tree and I could see it before I ducked under the branches and went in. It was a lock box. At first I wasn't sure what I was suppose to do but with some tinkering I got the lock open because someone had broken it. I really wasn't sure what the container of keys inside were for. I signed the log and put everything back.
I still had some time to go get the last one on this side of the recreation area...there are still two more caches left to get on the other side, I plugged in the coords to Got Em' (GC3RQF7). I am not sure if they were suppose to be on the ground next to the little tree but there they were. I put them back better than I found them.
It was getting late and it started lightly sprinkling. I needed to get to the car so I could go get dinner. Ben was on shift at the fire station and we were going to have dinner. I walked back down the dirt trail and back towards the Scatter Creek barn. I decided to take a quick picture before I left.
I went to Subway and grabbed a sandwich for Ben and I. I met him at the station and we ate our food and watched whatever was on the TV. We chatted about our upcoming 3-4 day weekend and Valentine's Day. Then sadly he had to go to work. We said our goodbyes and I went home. I was glad to see him and happy go have gotten those caches out of the way I've been meaning to get.
Next Adventure: Valentine's Day
