Mom's Birthday, Corn Maze, Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Carving Night

It felt really good to sleep in.  I got up around 10 thinking that Ben would be here by now.  I guess when he did get up to drive over, he got stuck helping with a case just before he clocked off at 7:30.  He didn't get here until about 11:30. I ate some food and watched some of my taped shows until he got here.  He made himself some leftovers and he chilled in the living room while I made dessert for the pumpkin carving/game night at Celeste's later on.

He got cleaned up and we chilled until it was time to go to his dentist appointment at 2:30.  We were almost late because he wouldn't get motivated to go.  We got there just after 2:30 but the place wasn't that busy.  I wished mom a happy birthday and Ben was going to be in her chair that afternoon.  He got a filling last February and it bothered him.  Turns out, he had a small piece of filling material that was stabbing him in the gums.  They removed it and buffed out the filling.  He was done within the hour.

Before we left, we told her happy birthday again and if she wanted us to bring her back a pumpkin from Rutledge Farms.  I've driven past this farm so many times in the past and it was finally time to stop by and see what it was about.  I've never been to a corn maze before.  It took us about 40 minutes to drive out to Tumwater from Yelm.  When we got there, we were basically the only people there.  Most of the attendance happens after dark.  We didn't have time to do the after dark corn maze becasue we had to be at Celeste's house for food, pumpkin carving and games.

I helped Ben find the cache nearby 93rd Purple Qwirkle Series-Square (GC3TGAX).  I gave him a few hints because the GPS on his phone was way off.

We paid our entrance fee and used the restroom before we made our way into the maze.  They had given us two cards, one for an FSI game...basically a whodunit game and a checkpoint map.  We looked at it for a few minutes just to make sure we understood what we were suppose to do.  When we entered the maze we saw some chickens running around.

We made our way through the maze, checking ourselves at the checkpoints and figuring out who killed Farmer Joe.

At one point, we went the wrong way and completely forgot checkpoint 5.  And then we got lost in Percy Harvin's face.  There, we went goofy.

We just had to play with the corn and since we were in a football themed maze, we just had to do it.  It was slowly getting dark so we decided to get our last checkpoint via blindly, that meant we didn't use the map.  Sadly, we ended up using it because the maze got confusing with all the blowouts by other people just running through the corn stalks instead of doing the maze correctly.  We got our last checkpoint, made our way out of the maze and saw the girl at the building.  We found out who killed Farmer Joe.  It was the goat, with the hammer in the tool shed.  We received a sticker for solving it correctly.

We asked about the pumpkin patch.  She said to go over to the tent, grab a wagon and follow the dirt road.  We found four pumpkins, drove it back to the tent, weighed our pumpkins and paid our nine bucks.  We wheeled them over to the car and loaded them up.  He took the wagon back while I got the car warmed up.  We headed home around 5:30.

We got home around 6:30 and we weren't sure if anyone was going to be there.  I thought maybe dad took mom out for her birthday.  She was home watching football and washing clothes.  I grabbed her presents and had her open them.  I gave her the pumpkin we picked out for her too.  We sang happy birthday to her.  We grabbed the stuff we needed and got in the car and headed to Celeste's house.

I put the dessert in her freezer and we got right down to eating pizza and chips and dip.  Of course Lindsay and Justin were late.  We ate without them.  Now pumpkin carving time!

We played a rousing game of Telestrations and then everyone had to go home because we are all old and had to work the next day...even though normal people work on Fridays.  It was a fun gathering and I hope we can do it again next year.
