Erika wanted to go to all of it and Ben could only go to the Mariner game and he had to meet us up there due to work. Mom had a half day on Friday, Erika had it off and I asked if I could leave at 2:30 so we could get up there at a decent time. We had everything ready to go.
I got home and Erika was getting her stuff ready and mom was on her way to our house. We made sure we had everything since we were spending the night in Seattle and headed towards I-5 around 3ish. If we could get past DuPont and Tacoma before 4 we would have a pretty good chance at getting there at a decent time. We hit some traffic up until Tacoma but ended up being smooth sailing from there. Ben called me around 4ish and told me that he had just gotten off work and was heading up to Seattle. I told him to let me know when he was on his way to the field so I can meet up with him inside the stadium. I had sent him his ticket so he could get in.
We got to Seattle pretty quickly, around 4:45, parked the Escape in a free spot over by the DSHS building near Massachusetts and 6th. We've always parked near this area but in the last few years it's been getting harder and harder. We made sure we had everything we needed for the game, locked the Escape and walked the few blocks to the field.
At this point, our 16th game of the season, we were the winningest team in baseball so far this year, so a lot more people were showing up to the games...even early! There were actual lines we had to wait in! I didn't expect this and I really hoped we got a hoodie now that I saw the size of the crowd. We got through security and got our hoodies but there were only mediums and XL's left. I knew these free giveaways sizes ran a bit small so I just grabbed one of the XL's even though I knew it would be pretty big on me. I guess I would just wear layers with it.
We meandered our way to our seats to see where they were and they were very nice for the view from right field. I have never sat in right field before so this was a new perspective of the game for me. We may even get a homerun ball from these seats.
We walked over to the third base side of the 100 level because I knew Annette was an usher tonight. We found her and chatted with her for a few minutes before we grabbed some bottomless popcorn and returned to our seats in right field. We enjoyed the ambiance of being at the ballpark. It's been a while since I've seen a game. It was also weird getting used to the new feel of the ballpark. Safeco decided not to renew their naming rights after 20 years so T-Mobile bought the naming rights to it. So everything was pink and said T-Mobile on it. It just didn't sit right.
The Mariners did very well through the bottom of the 5th inning, being up 3-2, but we still needed our homerun to keep the homerun streak alive. Through 15 games so far this season we've hit a homerun in every single game. We were hitting homeruns and winning. This might be the year where we turn our game around.
Then tragedy struck. We walked the bases loaded in the top of the 6th and they hit a grand slam. Okay, it's not that bad. We still have plenty of innings to make those runs up. We were only down by three. We can do it. We made a valiant effort in the 7th inning only to be down by one run. If we can go three up and three down in the 8th and 9th innings we had a very good chance to take this one. We went into the 8th inning, walked the bases loaded again and they hit another grand slam. I could not believe it!! I have never been to a game where not one but two grand slams were hit in the same game. I knew it was a long shot to come away from this game with a win. We still needed that homerun though. We had two more chances to get it.
Our catcher, Murphy, finally hit one in the bottom of the 9th to secure our 16 game homerun streak. It was a bummer we lost because we rarely go to games where we lose. We lost 10-6 to the Astros in front of about 31,000 people in attendance. Our record was now 13-4, still the best in baseball at this point. This game actually put us in a really bad losing pattern which turned us into one of the worst teams in baseball.
**At the end of this season, because the Nationals went and won the World Series, we became the only MLB team that has not gone to the World Series.**
We grabbed our stuff and headed up to the concourse with the sea of people shuffling out to the exits. We used the restroom and then walked out of the field and out onto the street to walk across the train tracks towards 6th Ave. Ben parked north of here and we parked south. I told him to be safe on his way to the car and to let me know when he got home. We got back to the Escape, put the address of The Warwick Hotel in to the Nuvi and headed north from the field. We missed the street we were suppose to turn on so we had to drive around the block, we pulled in and the valet was closed because it was so late. We found a parking spot, backed in while mom went to check us in. Erika and I grabbed the bags, met up with mom and took our stuff up to the 17th floor. We were in room 1715.
We got settled in and opened the blinds to see what kind of a view we had of downtown. We had a great view of the Space Needle from our room.
Everyone got ready for bed since it was late. Erika gave me her old Fitbit a while ago and decided to give me her newer one because she got a Garmin watch instead. I gave mom the older Fitbit and spent some time syncing it to mom's phone so she could have one.
Men in Black III was on the TV as I laid in bed relaxing. Around midnightish I shut everything off and went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be busy and I hoped it didn't rain on us.
