Mom signed us up to do the hot chocolate run and I didn't do a darn thing to prepare for it except for those few days jogging with Charlie. She was excited to do it and was going to try and run this time. Mom and I signed up for the 5K while Erika and Zach did the 15K. There was no way I was going to run that far without literally dying. Plus I would get bored running that far. A 5K is the perfect distance for me.
We got online and purchased our tickets and found a hotel near the Seattle Center for a night. None of us wanted to get up extremely early and drive up to Seattle and then try to find parking. Mom put it on her credit card (because she earns points) and told us that we owed her money.
I got my stuff ready to go and mom met us at our house and we left around one-ish to go pick up Zach from Lakewood. He gets nervous when he drives in busy areas so he would rather us come get him than he drive up there or meet us somewhere. Erika relayed us the directions while we drove to his apartment. It was way off the freeway. I thought we'd never get there. We get to the right spot and Erika runs in to get him. We were on our way back to I-5. There was a stalled out truck on the overpass so that messed up traffic getting back onto I-5 for a minute.
Traffic wasn't that bad heading up. We got off at the Denny Way exit and made our way to the hotel. It was in a funky spot so we had to turn around to find the gate. We parked, mom checked us in, we grabbed our stuff and found our room. Mom and I shared the bed next to the bathroom and Erika and Zach shared the bed next to the window. We talked about what we wanted to do next.
We agreed to walk around the Seattle Center and find some dinner eventually. We used the restrooms inside the armory and then walked around a bit. We showed Zach part of the Berlin wall before going outside to take pictures of the Space Needle and the fountain.
I walked over to the other side to find a geocache I didn't have yet. It was called World Wide Web (GC7VTN3) and I had to be very sneaky when extracting it from its hiding spot. There were a lot of people around. I found a break in the steady stream of people and grabbed it. It was a bison tube dressed like a spider. Clever. I signed my name, got my photo and put it back without anyone seeing me.
Erika and mom wanted to go to the waterfront and Pike's Place Market so we bought tickets for the monorail and hopped in line. It's been at least 20 years since I've ridden the monorail.
We were dropped off at the Westlake Center, looked around at some of the shops, walked around Pike's Place and then walked down the stairs to the waterfront.
It looks completely different now. The last time I was here it was under construction and we had to avoid a couple of the areas. We walked from almost the aquarium towards the Ferris wheel. I did the virtual cache, BIG WHEEL (GC7B9G7) and I had to count a bunch of bolts and wires and of course get my picture with it. Erika got a picture of me with it.
We discussed where we wanted to go to eat. Erika wanted pizza. We had no idea where pizza was in that area so I looked it up on my phone. We saw a place called The Alibi Room near the gum wall.
We walked back up the stairs and made our way into Post Alley. I left some gum on the wall and we saw the sign for the pizza place.
It was hidden in that tiny alley way. I could see how you could miss it if you weren't paying attention. We walked inside and it was very dark. The waitress asked how many and stuck us in the corner. We were given menus and we ordered drinks. She came back a while later and we all decided on the calzone option. I got a cheese, pepperoni and black olive one. The calzones were pretty good. We paid and wandered back over to Westlake Center to get back on the monorail.
We got off at the Seattle Center and walked the few blocks in the cold to our hotel. I stopped a took a picture of the Space Needle because of how the lights contrasted the dark sky.
It looked pretty cool. When we got back to the hotel. I got myself a shower while everyone got their stuff together while the TV was on. I got out, dressed and ready for bed. I spent some time getting my stuff together for the race tomorrow as well.
The weather was suppose to be cold and try which at this time of year it could go either way so I was happy to hear that forecast. We all set our alarms for early o'clock and fell asleep. This was my first race of the year since last summer's Dirty Dash.
