We were to host Easter again this year. I guess there were a few people sick and they didn't want to host it at their house, which was fine, I just needed to know who was coming so we had enough food for everyone. I tried to get some input on what kind of food we wanted to have and if we were going to do Easter baskets. I knew it was hard for Grammie and Grandpa to get the baskets assembled and I asked her if they wanted any help because I was willing to help them out to make it easier on them. She said that they would take care of it. I bought some stuff for the baskets as well.
I found a recipe on Facebook a few months back and decided to make it for Ben and I for dinner to see if we liked it. It was cut up chicken breast, green beans and red potatoes, divided up into rows, sprinkled with onions, garlic and Mrs. Dash with some Italian dressing drizzled over the top of it all. It turned out to be an awesome meal and we were definitely going to make it again and again. I decided that we were going to make it for Easter this year...just for something different. I had to borrow mom and dad's cooker, I opened my cooker I got for Christmas and had to put some of it in the oven because we were feeding around 15 people. We were also celebrating birthdays from January to April, which was going to be for six people. Tracy made the cake.
I assigned everyone some food to bring so it wasn't all on one person's shoulders. I made sure I got everything from mom and Grammie so I could prepare the potatoes and chicken that day than waiting until they got there and try to get it done before everyone came over. I spent most of Saturday cleaning and preparing the house and most of Sunday morning cutting up the food and getting it ready to cook. It was exhausting and I understand how my grandparents and parents felt when we were kids and they did it for us.
That day, the weather was iffy and I knew at some point during the day it was going to rain. It was kind of chilly so we were going to have to bundle up when we go for our hunt later. Everyone showed up just before the food was done. The one cooker needed a few more minutes so we dished food out of the other cooker and trays from the oven. We all sat at the table and visited while we ate. We talked about our jobs, the things that were coming up for us and other weird stories that came up.
We cleaned up the dishes, had our birthday party (singing, presents and cake) and then everyone chilled in the living room while Tracy and I got the baskets ready in the extra room. We went outside and hid the eggs and baskets within our boundaries we set. We hid three tricky eggs and hid dad's Easter basket in a tree. It sprinkled the entire time we were out there hiding them. We hoped by the time we were done the rain would stop so everyone could come out and find their stuff without getting soaked and cold.
Lucky for us the rain did stop so we all could go outside and find our eggs and baskets. I told everyone before we went and found them where the boundaries were and that there were some tricky eggs. Then we cut them loose. I walked around watching people find eggs. I picked up a few just so I could trade people for pennies later. Our plastic eggs traditionally have always been filled with change rather than candy. People found all of their baskets and one person found one of the three tricky eggs. We had to give some hints to where the other two were. People figured it out quick and we all managed to find all the plastic eggs we hid. We took a group picture near the Birch tree in the yard.
Everyone grabbed their stuff and headed home for the day. Ben and I cleaned up the house and did the dishes. Later on that week I was doing some yard work and noticed my decoy ducks and bird house in the front yard was missing. I thought maybe some of the neighborhood kids came into the yard and stole them...but then they would have stolen the flamingo too but that was still there. Hmmm.
I got an email from Grandpa following the post on Facebook saying that somehow my stuff ended up in their truck and they took it home. So whom ever helped them put their stuff in the truck thought that stuff needed to come with their Easter baskets. I thought it was hilarious that my grandparents stole stuff out of my yard. Mystery solved!
Happy Easter everyone!
