Halloween Shark and Haunted House

Ever since I saw the sharks on Katy Perry's 2015 Super Bowl half time show I wanted a costume like that and I still do!  Unfortunately I had to get a knock off version of it however I got a good deal because I got during a sale.  It was originally $24 knocked down to $10, of course I'm bringing it home!  It wasn't THE Katy Perry shark but it will do for now.  I even found Calvin a shark costume as well for $5.  Totally worth it!

Throughout the week I told my co-workers we were going to go get a picture from imaging of our costumes on Halloween since it was allowed at work.  I tried rallying everyone and I guess we would see what people brought.  That Sunday I went through some of my past costumes and props to see which ones would work and which ones people were willing to wear.  I told Liz she could wear my penguin costume I wore last year.

That morning I showed up and immediately both of us transformed into a shark and a penguin.  It was epic.  We got so many compliments and we had fun...which was the most important part.  Some of the FIC girls had some costumes in the back so they all wore superhero masks and capes.  I got the people who didn't wear costumes to wear some of the stuff I brought.  I was super stoked.  Tim and Taja could not attend the photo shoot because they were on the phone with a customer and could not leave.  It was now or never.

We were pretty excited on how it turned out.  I couldn't have been any better.  They all thanked me for rallying everyone to do it.

The day went pretty much routine from the picture on.  We worked on July enrollment the rest of the day.  I knew my afternoon was going to be really rushed because I had to be in Puyallup as soon as I got off work.  Luckily I planned ahead and brought everything I needed with me.  Ben was going to meet me there when he got off work.

I talked to Fitzy on the way to Walt and Wendy's house.  Dupont and 510 were the worst traffic areas but I didn't mind because I was catching up with Megan and venting about Ben and I's recent roommate problem.  I was pretty irritated and wanted the problem to go away but she owed us a lot of money still.

I got to the haunted house, ate the food Wendy prepared for the cast and immediately went upstairs to have my make-up and wardrobe done.  I went outside and took pictures of the different rooms.  There were quite a few of them this year in our freaky fun house.

My job was to come out of the darkness, quietly and quickly once the victims walked into the hallway as the main door closed.  I got a lot of people to scream at my face.  There were many different age groups ranging from small child (which we had to tone it down a bit) to older people in their 50's and 60's.  We had many groups of teenagers and some even went through twice.  A lot of the girl groups screamed more than others.  I do remember a twosome of older women coming through.  I surprised them, they screamed obscenities, the continued walking down the hallway as I silently followed them, they turned around the check their backs, saw me again and screamed down to the next room.  It was hard not to laugh at them.

I was also kinda slammed in the door that I was hiding behind by a small boy leading with his arms.  Luckily, my hand wasn't in the door.  Nicole and Del came through as well as Heather and Josh and their kids and Ben's friend Megan and her buddy Sarah.  Trish and Amy came through and like years before Amy is scared of the chainsaw.  It was fun to be supported by our friends and family.  Ben was dressed like a clown and he was a pusher, which meant he moved from room to room scaring people.

Both nights we did this it was pretty cold so I wore some under armor underneath my costume.  I was just glad it didn't rain.  Erika was suppose to come both nights but on Saturday she got a migraine and didn't feel very well and Tuesday her lab went over and couldn't make it out in time.  It was a bummer but we had enough people show up for parts so we weren't in a bind.

At the end of the night, we got a group picture, went inside (Wendy and Rosa made cider and hot chocolate) and we talked about what went well, what didn't and shared funny stories.  I had to duck out a little early because I had to get home, get showered and head to bed because 6 a.m. comes quickly.  I left just after 9 and it roughly took an hour to get home, I would have about an hour to get showered and ready for bed.  Ben stayed later because he didn't have to get up.

I got home with about an hour to spare before bed.  I got cleaned up from all the make-up I had on my face and it was nice to just stand in it because I was cold from standing outside for a few hours.  I got all of my stuff ready for work, hopped into bed and passed out hard.  Today was really busy and I can't wait until it slows down a bit.

The Pumpkin Patch with Mom and Erika

Mom had talked to me the prior weekend asking if I would take her to the pumpkin patch.  She really didn't want a pumpkin but more of a picture taking opportunity.  Then, I told her she waited too long and this was something we should have done sooner in October, plus I ran out of weekends.  October shouldn't be this busy but it was.  I just happened to get up early and gave mom a call since I didn't have anything planned for the day.  However, we had to get ready to go to Puyallup later on tonight for the haunted house's opening night.  Ben was at work until 4 then he was going to meet me in Puyallup.

I told her if she wanted to do this she better get ready.  I had her meet us (Erika went with me) at Rutledge off of 93rd since it was close and we have been here before so we knew what to expect.  Erika and I went the back way to Tumwater and we ended up behind mom because she went Waldrick Road.  We thought the timing was funny.

We parked and made our way to the wagon area and got distracted by the metal barrel train painted like cows for little kids.  Erika and I got in for the photo op.  We made mom giggle.

We walked around checking out the tent by the wheel barrows and all the pumpkins that were for sale that you didn't have to pick yourself.  Mom took a couple of photos there and wanted to know if we should get a wagon and drive it out to the patch.  We followed her.  It was so late in the season everything was dying.  The corn stalks, the pumpkins all had chunks missing from them, it was like a pumpkin zombie show.  We found the ones without so many holes and positioned them accordingly for the picture.

We decided we really didn't need anymore pumpkins so we walked back to the main area.  We went into the gazebo area (they had a fire going) and we found some of the sunflowers still intact.  Erika and I went on the swings for a while.  Mom headed over towards the chickens and then walked back over to take more pictures.

We decided we were done but I wanted to buy a sugar pumpkin to make homemade pumpkin pies out of.  I was feeling ambitions.  Ben and I had made one for the first time last Thanksgiving and it turned out great.  We walked it over to the barn area and we noticed the past years' corn maze designs.  Ben and I went in 2014 when the design were two Seahawk players.  I paid for my pumpkin and went back to our vehicles.  Mom asked what else we were doing today and I said later on I have to go out to Puyallup for the haunted house.  She asked if we wanted to go with her to Costco.  We said sure.

Erika rode with mom because she hadn't been inside the truck mom and dad bought last spring.  We met up at the Tumwater Costco and headed in.  Erika and I bought toilet paper and dryer sheets and mom bought stuff for the dentist office.  We filled up one of those flat carts.  Meanwhile, I had to call grandma to see what she was out of while we were here.  We picked up a few more items and were ready to check out.

Erika and I were ready to head to the Escape to go home but mom was like, "aren't you guys going to help me?"  We both came to the same conclusion, oh we see why you wanted us to come with you...free labor!  She just giggled and told us to hand her the stuff to put in the back of the truck.  She thanked us and Erika and I headed back home because she wasn't feeling too well.  The migraine was on the attack.  Mom went home.

I got ready to head to Puyallup for opening night (see Tuesday's blog for haunted house).

Pumpkin Carving Game Night

We have for several years hosted pumpkin carving night at Celeste's house.  I have no idea why but it's always been a tradition since we started doing it in 2013.  We all corresponded on our "Cool Kids Doing Cool Things" group on Facebook.  We all told each other if we were coming and what we were going to bring as far as food went.  I decided Ben and I were going to bring Rice Krispy treats with some flare!  We even got Erika to come do something fun with us.

I got our pumpkins a few days before because last year we waited until the last minute and they were more expensive and insanely ginormous...almost ridiculous.  I made the dessert a few hours before.  I found an idea off of Facebook and went with it.  I had to go to the store to get the green M&M's and the small Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.  We had to go over to my parent's house to help dad put in the new floor into the "Christmas" room.

I made the Rice Krispys, added red and yellow together to make orange and rolled them into pumpkin shapes.  I added two M&M's and the cups to it.  They were pretty awesome.

Around 5:15 we headed over to Celeste's house.  I had Erika follow me so she could leave whenever she wanted to.  We brought all of our pumpkins inside as well as the food we brought.  We set it on the food table and found a spot for my pumpkin in the dining room.  We all waited for everyone to arrive as I caught up with Kathy for a bit.  Everyone came within the half hour with their pumpkins and food.

We ate first and then carved pumpkins.  It never fails but Ben is always the last person to get their pumpkin done.  Most of the time is spent picking out something to carve.  Everyone else was pretty much almost done by the time he started his pumpkin.  I found a face earlier at my parents house and printed it off line.  I wanted a creepy face this year.

Ben did the BOB-OMB from Mario, Erika did a skeleton face, Celeste poked hers with a heart tool, Isaac did a scary face, Del did Pac-Man and Nicole did a kitty.  Megan, Matt, Mason and Miles all did a pumpkin but they left early before we took pictures.  Justin and Lindsay didn't make it.

We had a great time.  Erika went home shortly after and some of us stayed and played a few games before it got too late.  I loaded up our pumpkins for display at our house and my food containers.  Until the next game night which is Friendsgiving at our house in the middle of November.
